"Great location, characterful hotel, lovely rooftop pool."

This was our second stay at the Hotel of South Beach (HoSoBe) at 801 Collins Avenue (the first was in January 2014) and our 4th in properties owned by Tony Goldman's group (the other was Park Central at 630 Ocean Drive, which is currently closed). For those interested in Miami's art deco scene it was built in 1939 as the Tiffany Hotel, the southernmost of L. Murray Dixon's corner hotels. Which begs the question: why is it not still called the Tiffany Hotel? In 2014 we stayed in a 2nd floor room and our last night there was marred by some noisy neighbours; they were technically in an adjoining building but here this meant they were only a few feet away. Nearly six years later, we are again welcomed to HoSoBe by David (their 'meet-and-greet' guy) who helps us with our luggage to the reception desk. We anticipated being in the same building on Collins, however we are told that (courtesy of having signed up for a Goldman Properties 'Gold' card in 2012) we had been upgraded to a superior room in the 'other' block. This arrangement is curious, and involved David and the two of us wheeling our luggage down to Ocean Drive and entering through an anonymous door in the News Cafe. We are in a very pleasant and spacious corner room with windows on three sides. Despite sleeping above it, we did NOT get to eat breakfast at the News Cafe (which I gather is a completely separate operation), but the location for breakfast off Collins is lovely. What's included is OK: just be careful to ensure that you order ONLY what is included, and don't go a la carte, otherwise you'll be presented with an enormous bill. Due to a misunderstanding on our first morning when I queried what we could order, we WERE, which the hotel (to its credit) mostly waived. But the highlight of HoSoBe is its rooftop pool, which is a great place to sunbathe and sit and watch the sun go down behind the neon-illuminated Tiffany 'spire'. Back in 2014 I went up top before breakfast to check out the weather and was greeted by a fashion shoot taking place around the pool; not something you experience every day. All in all, a good location: ideal for walking the beach and people-watching on Ocean Drive before hitting the restaurants on Collins or Washington in the evening. Note that you get provided with a sunlounger and beach towels at the kiosk on the beach when you present your HoSoBe ID, which is nice.

"Great Hotel in the Heart of South Beach"

I really enjoyed my stay at The Hotel of South Beach! The employees are great and always willing to help! David was so friendly! Some of the rooms are located on Ocean Drive and it can get pretty noisy at night, so it was a bit difficult to sleep. With that being said, the bed was super comfortable and the hotel has so many great amenities! I especially liked the two complimentary beach chairs! Overall, I would recommend this hotel and I hope to come back in the future!

Initial thoughts were that the hotel was pretty basic but on balance the pros outweigh the cons and we ultimately enjoyed our stay. Pros Great roof top pool Good location Friendly staff Good quality bedding and towels Coffee machine Reasonable toiletries Gowns and flip flops Good size room Good communal areas Tasty coconut shrimp Cons Windows opaque so felt somewhat claustrophobic Corridors looking shabby Bedroom noisy especially when second floor running around until 2.30 am Lack of carpets amplifies noise No fresh milk

We stayed 4 days, and were very happy with the staff and location. This is a classic art deco hotel about a block from the beach, built in the late 1930's. It has been updated, but still has a few quirks. The lone elevator gets quite the workout, and streetside rooms can be very noisy in the evenings. That said, we would like to return when we next visit.

"Terrible Area"

Be very careful if you decide to stay in this part of south beach - this is a very dangerous and indescribable part of Miami Beach. The best part of the experience is the people - to name a few Katty, who stayed late one day to try to make the experience better. She was amazing. An oceanfront room means you are on ocean ave above a restaurant that remains open 24 hours - not good for sleeping as noise remains all night. Also you’re in a fish bowl with people able to look directly into your room. Also Davide an amazing delightful and friendly bellman always willing to help - and Jordy delightful on the phone and always helpful. The pool is quite small and the fitness center also not impressive. Bathrooms could use some updates, otherwise clean. I didn’t feel the property was anywhere near the rates I was being charged.
