"Not Worth a Try"

This place is just deteriorating slowly into a motel. The resort is so damn beautiful and located in an area where not much else is, but they truly have 0 pride in their property. It feels like a step back into time. Nothing at this place has been changed and will probably change for the next decade. They clearly have enough occupation where they are pocketing money vs even thinking about putting it into the rooms or grounds. Lights out all around the property, random old furniture just hanging out around the property, paint peeling literally everywhere, fixtures broken and or very outdated. This property is very large, and clearly takes a lot to maintain, but with that said... PAINTING and maintaining is a day to day task. NOT a monthly, quarterly task. Their prices are ridiculous. Weathered the storm for 3 night and two different rooms. I don’t see any worth for my money spent.

Lovely big rooms we were ocean side. Travelling from the UK we are not use to the resort fees and thought they were a little excessive, that said they have to be paid and so be it. Lovely views and spotting turtles just off the rocks was a lovely activity for us, sounds simple but very cool.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BEING DISCOURAGED BY THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! Yes... the rooms (especially the bathrooms) are a little outdated HOWEVER it was still VERY clean. I like to think of it as being ‘Hawaiian’ and not ‘Hollywood’. The cleaning staff were great and did an amazing job when we required some upkeep to our room. Rays on the Bay was spectacular. We had the volcano shrimp which was to die for and the chefs special which were excellent also. The Haulu Bar by the pool was also very good and were very generous with their drinks. We had a few thing there but I suggest the burger. It was very tasty. The GROUNDS!! Unbelievable. The grounds were probably our favourite part of the resort/hotel. Very well kept, great basketball and tennis court but overall just lush and beautiful. The service was very good also. We were very happy with everyone from the front desk to the maintenance and cleaning staff. All we (wife and I) can say is that we were a little discouraged when reading the negative reviews but we thought it was great. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we don’t have a bad thing to say. Remember, sometimes people’s expectations are ridiculous for the price they’re paying. If you want ‘Hollywood’ go stay at the Four Seasons and spend $1k a night (this was where the ‘private’ beach was that a certain amount of tourists can get a pass for every day). One tip... make sure you read what’s included with your resort fee because we didn’t take full advantage of it. Enjoy your stay and we hope you have a great time like we did :) Mahalo Ryan and Kathy - Calgary, Alberta

Superb, that´s the word that summarizes all what I felt during my vacations in KONA. Since we arrived the attention was really excelent. The check in process, the room, the reatarurant, all of them accomplished my expectatives. All the people working there very kínd. I sincerely recommend the place.

"Better than expected"

Our stay here was also almost derailed by my wife reading negative reviews and second guessing decision to stay here. Our room was clean, no mold and everything worked. We liked the location of the hotel. The onsite market store had reasonable prices. Had dinner one night at Rays. Decent, expensive food, great views, poor service. Did not like the resort fee and charge for parking. There is free parking on street. Had a late flight and asked for a late checkout. As a lowly silver elite I was given 1 pm and told it would cost $125 to stay til 5. Got a great deal on this hotel through a Delta vacation package. Would not go out of my way to stay here again but this hotel is OK if you get a good deal and arrive with reasonable expectations.
