Overall experience was ok. But the portion was not enough. Specially if you do not open yourself to everything that was opened during the tour.

"Not what I was expecting"
July 2018
I love taking food tours and no matter where I go on vacation, I look for a food tour. I have taken a dozen food tours in 4 or 5 different states. I have also taken several tours with Savory Faire in St. Augustine. I must say that both my husband and myself were disappointed with this tour.
Most of the restaurants on the tour did not even offer water to the people who did not purchase the wine option. We were at one place for almost an hour, sitting outside in the heat, no fans or water to cool everyone off and them we get one shrimp. I am not kidding, one shrimp. And if you liked it, and wanted to order it for a meal, we found out that it isn't offered on the menu. The other places had samples that were actually on the menu and didn't mind telling you about their food. Of all the food tours that I have taken, at the end, you are full. At the end of this tour, we went looking for a place to eat. But not anywhere that was on the tour.
And the guide fit the dismal tour. She never told us where we were going, never mentioned the name of the restaurant, and at one point was asked directly if we could get the name of the next place were we going, she said, "You can ask, but I may not tell you." Was she trying to be funny? We got directions like, "we're going this way for awhile", and "we're cutting across this parking lot". Why not just say that we are going to Restaurant A on B street? Why the secrecy? It was weird.
Then, if someone asked about the history of St. Augustine, her facts we not accurate. There is way too much information about the history, and it is too easily accessible (just go to the visitor center, or the fort, or take a trolley tour, etc) to be incorrect on the city's history.
I will still look for food tours when I go on vacation, but I may be reluctant to try it again in St. Augustine.

Tip: You will do a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. Also, dress for the weather. It's hot in Florida in the summer and most restaurants offer outside seating, but you will be uncomfortable wearing heavy clothes.

"The savory food tour"
August 2016
Going into this tour, I had no idea what to expect. I figured we would get a few morsels of food, and listen to a tour guide run through a script of things to say. However, what we got was way, WAY, more.
First, we get to the meeting spot for the beginning of the tour, check in, and give the receptionist our names(Real or fake) and then we are given complimentary wine and chocolate! Not much of a wine guy, but it was pretty good. Then we waited for the rest of our tour group to get there(one of which was kind of upset about the parking situation, but lets get into that) and once all 8 of us arrived we met Ed and the adventure began.
We set out, heading right down the street towards the Cafe Alcazar, learning a bunch of great and interesting history about the city and buildings from Ed. Once we got to the restaurant, we got to sit at our table instantly and was given some more complimentary wine(I think it was wine, Ed said it was Absinthe or something like that) which was incredible! Then we were given a delicious artisan pizza to sample and to my disgust at first, Escargot. I had never tried it, and never had an intention to try it however after some encouraging I bit the bullet and popped it into my mouth. It was not bad, but it will be something I never try again.
So we set out right across the street to the Old City House Inn and Restaurant for a fantastic looking Goat cheese and Herb grit, with some shrimp in a sauce(sorry, I cannot recall all of what Ed said was in it). I say it looked good because I could not eat it due to a food allergy. Not to be left out, Ed sprang into action and got the chef to whip me up a fantastic cabbage salad topped with Prosciutto. It was incredible, the restaurant was accommodating, and Ed was on the ball.
Next we went to the Ancient Olive which we were allowed to sample some very artfully crafted Olive Oil, as well as a blueberry preserve cream cheese spread. It was incredible. We also sampled some stuffed olives and cured meats as well.
Next we ventured to Athenas where we were served flamed goat cheese and pita bread as well as a gyro with tzatiki sauce.
We then walked across a quaint park that had some historic obelisks and an old fashioned well, and made our way down to Vino Del Grotto. An excellent little winery that served us some of there special Hurricane Wine that they made from different fruit instead of from grapes. It was delicious and refreshing.
And for the finale we ventured into just one of the most beautiful hotels in the city. Casa Monica. The ambiance was spectacular, the staff friendly, and the restaurant(which was named Costa Brava) was amazing! We were served tapas, which was basically a buffet style appetizer bar. There was sauted and marinated onions, olives, stuffed peppers, prosciutto, genoa salami, and much, MUCH more. It was easily one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Ed was a fantastic tour guide, our whole party left happy, and full of not only delicious Mediterranean cuisine but also full of knowledge about the most beautiful city I have ever seen.

Tip: You'll be walking a lot so wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. It's not really a meal but after 5 ex-large appetizer size food stops I wasn't hungry for dinner!
