Description

from Preview Boston Bus Tour
For the perfect preview of all that the great city of Boston, Massachusetts has to offer, look no further than preview city bus tours with USA Guided Tours! This tour will give you a taste of Boston’s rich history and deep roots in American Culture.

For the first part of this guided bus tour, we’ll head north crossing over the Charles River to nearby Cambridge - home to two of the world’s most well-known universities - Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

We’ll then drive by historic Harvard Yard, which is not only the oldest part of the campus but also the center of its history. In fact, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher education in the United States! The famous Harvard Yard is located in the center of it all, neighboring a large portion of freshman dormitories dating back to 1720, and the offices of the president of Harvard himself! Come witness these historic buildings for yourself. When you are finished, don’t miss the opportunity to marvel at MIT’s campus just next door. MIT was founded to kick start our nation’s industrial revolution, bringing together some of the most brilliant minds in the country. Since then, MIT has become a global icon as a magnet for exceptional talent across the world.

Experience part of America’s history, right where it unfolded. We’ll also see Cambridge Common - a public park located near Harvard Square where General George Washington gathered troops during the American Revolutionary War. Then off to Lexington, where we’ll visit Lexington Battle Green - a historic town where the American Revolutionary War began. This is the site that the initial opening shots were fired, marking the beginning of the battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. On this date, local militiamen emerged from Buckman Tavern near Cambridge Common. These men were the first of many casualties when the two sides began exchanging the fire that began the American Revolution.

The bus tour continues along Battle Road Trail between Lexington and Concord - which marks the path taken by British soldiers during the war. It is also the road Paul Revere took to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that “the British are coming”. This historic trail connects from Meriam’s Corner in Concord to the eastern side of the park in Lexington. On this trail, you will see both the original preserved portions of the main battle road, as well as offshoots in the nearby wetlands, forests, and farming fields taken by the minutemen.

While in Concord, we’ll see the homes of Louisa May Alcott - author of the classic novel Little Women. Enjoy a stop outside of Louisa May Alcott’s orchard house and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery this region has to offer. Then continue on to see the home of the legendary essayist, poet, and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson.

As a bonus, we’ll stop by the Old North Bridge - a historic site in the Battle of Concord; the first day of battle in the Revolutionary War. The tour returns to the original departure point.

We had a wonderful tour. We did the Freedom Trail Walking tour and was concerned that there would be a lot of overlap - but not the case. The guides (driver was a guide as well) were awesome and engaging and saw the Harvard grounds, shot heard round the world, lunch in the heart of Boston and US Constitution (naval ship). Perfect way to see a little of everything.
