We made a rookie mistake and didn't check the last tour time for the USS Arizona. After a slow start to the day we got there at 3:30pm and the last tour for the USS Arizona was at 3pm. We decided not to go to any of the paid exhibitions but just looked around the free area at the waterfront of Pearl Harbour. There was quite a bit of information to read on various plaques throughout the complex. From a distance you could see the USS Arizona Memorial and there were also some battleships and some submarines in the harbour. Having just a passing knowledge of Pearl Harbour previously, it was interesting to get more of an understanding of what had happened. There are two exhibition rooms that illustrate the build up to the Pearl Harbour attack and the attack itself, including a theatrette that has some actual footage and recreated imagery of the event. On display outside these rooms was one of the anchors that had been retrieved from the USS Arizona. There are also models and maps of the area and commemorative statues and also a little bit of background on the native Hawaiian connection to the area. If you enjoy learning about history this is an interesting place to visit. If coming by bus from Waikiki, take the 20 bus rather than the 42 as the 42 bus goes through the downtown area and stops for almost every bus stop and traffic light along the way. If bringing a bag, be aware that bags are not allowed in the complex and there is a $5 to check your bag.

This is a must visit in Honolulu. The first 1000 visitors are admitted at no charge. The Memorial is also included in the combination ticket. Uniform staff are very knowledgeable and available to answer questions. I learn something more about American heroes every time I visit.

Even though I had bought tickets online months before we left to see all the sites, we still had to get in line for Arizona Memorial tickets. I didn't understand that but it didn't take long. We arrived at 7:10 a.m. and the line was already long to get in but it went very fast. It's a little confusing when you enter which way to go for this or that and which line you need to get in or not. But, everyone that we asked for help or directions that day was super nice about it. The Arizona Memorial was the highlight for me but I really enjoyed the Missouri (take the tour, don't just walk around- it's worth it), and it was fun and quick to go through to submarine. There are also museums if you're interested. You could do this in half a day or spend the whole day depending on your level of interest.

We booked directly with US government site for the full passport, a seamless process. The USS Arizona Memorial had opened back up in time for our scheduled visit to Hawaii. The theater presentation is very moving and the tender ride to the memorial is very solemn experience. We also went aboard the USS Missouri battleship, the USS Bowfin submarine, USS Oklahoma Memorial and the aviation museum (all the memorial sites). The US really know how to honor its service men and women. It is a must see and appeals to all age groups.
