This hotel is elegant in a classic way. It is as welcoming and comfortable as it was thirty years ago, when my wife and I spent our honeymoon here. The decor is a bit dated by sleek contemporary standards, but if your looking for a traditional hotel, and one that still doesn't tack on that silly resort fee, this one fills the bill.

If you have ever been to an Omni property you know how wonderful the experience can be. This hotel and staff must have received their training at a hotel who name includes a number. After seeing mice in our room we were moved to another room, no upgrade or compensation. After packing up our belongings it took 7 hours to get a new room and they staff left all our bags in the lobby for anyone to access. I needed something from my bag and no one said anything about me picking through them. The hotel is old and needs updating. The paint is mismatched in the rooms. The stairwells receive zero maintenance. The taps in the bar must be for show only as bottle beer was the only thing available. Try some other hotel if you want a relaxing stay.

I scored a bargain rate on Priceline for a DC weekend. I checked in around 5:30 on Friday, and front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. Signed me up on site for the loyalty program so the in-room wifi would be free. Upgraded me to a room with 2 queen beds, which was quiet and comfortable. The room was huge and the bed was comfy. Even with the two queen beds, desk, chair, reading chair and table, there was room for another sofa and chair near the entrance. There was wasted space - a 5x5 entrance room to the small closet and the least fitting bathroom I've seen in years. It was cramped for one person. Toilet mounted off-centered, so it was hard to use, and it moved when you sat down. No storage space to speak of, so it was awkward for one. Housekeeping doesn't make the grade. The room looks clean, but when I did my pre-checkout review of the drawers I found a prior guest's socks in the bottom drawer. Seriously. I had breakfast in the restaurant one morning and skipped the buffet, and ordered off the menu. Service was slow and inattentive. No water refills, and I was done eating for more than 10 minutes before anyone stopped by. No one asked how the meal was, or if I wanted anything else. It is a child-friendly hotel. So if you have screaming toddlers who can't sit still, they'll be welcome in the restaurant. And, if you don't, well, you'll meet some. It's a busy convention hotel, so it's not unusual for the two elevators per wing to be quite busy. I waited five minutes to get to the lobby after checking out, since I needed the elevator with my bags.

I will start by saying I got an incredible deal for this hotel online which definitely topped the scales on my deciding to stay here instead of other Properties. I will also say that the majority of the staff members who I encountered during my stay were very pleasant and helpful. We arrived early due to an early flight and our room was not ready. Our bags were stowed and we were informed that we would received a text when our room was ready. So we left for a few hours to have lunch and shop. We arrived back after receiving the text message from the hotel, retrieved our key from the key wall (which seems like a security risk????) and went to our room only to discover that we had been given a king room when clearly the reservation booked was for two queens. Back down to the lobby we went, dragging all our luggage. Informed the receptionist who had checked us in (Joyce) of the issue and frankly at first she seemed puzzled for a moment. (During this time a guest in the next line to me came back to the front desk because they arrived to their room only to discover they it was still dirty from the previous guests!!) Joyce then issued us a room with two bed inside of this ANNEXED building that was separate from the main building. She stated there were no rooms available in the main building. I then thought to myself “well perhaps if you had fulfilled the reservation correctly when we initially arrived HOURS AGO, then we would have been able to stay in the main building.” I asked Joyce about my request (that I made when booking the hotel room) to add my Omni select gold loyalty number to the reservation. She informed me, very dryly might I add, that it would not be added because I used to book the room instead of directly through their website. Now I know that sometimes there are issues receiving credit or loyalty points when you use third party sites; however lots of chains (in my experience) will make an effort to accommodate a loyal customer in some way especially on a gold level or higher status. I have found that Marriott at least credits me for one night of my stay when using a third party site. A good faith effort to thank a gold level member for their loyalty and business would have been appreciated in this situation. An extra perk, a cookie, a free bottle of water...SOMETHING. I received nothing other than ice cold customer service at the front desk. I would recommend that reception staff at this hotel, go through some sort of “smiling training”. A smile from Joyce would have gone a long way in this situation. So we find our room through this long and Convoluted path. We were informed by another hotel staff member that this separate building that our room was in, used to be an apartment building that the hotel bought and converted to more rooms...I could tell. I definitely felt as though I was staying in a different building. Our neighbor had a room service tray that sat outside in the hallway for almost TWO DAYS before someone finally came and cleared it away. Definitely not indicative of a 5 star facility or of that 4 diamond award that the hotel has displayed in the lobby. I think that although the hotel was clean and seemed safe (all baseline accomplishments), I did not experience anything 5 star or diamond level about this hotel. So unless I find another KILLER deal like I did online this time, I would not pay one cent more for this hotel during my next stay in DC. There’s too much competition in the city foe me to overpay for mediocrity.

The main entrance, the garden, the corridors and the hall are stunning. Even the breakfast area is amazing. However I was really disappointed but what’s behind the holliwoodiane image: the trolley with dirty dishes outside the room next mine stayed there for almost 24 hours, the floor of the room wasn’t really clean , when they made our room they left dirty wet towel on the chair and hanging in the shower (I had to call to have new ones but the ones I got were dusty), there was a bug in the corridor (that could happen I don’t blame the hotel), at breakfast we asked for cappuccino and the quick answer was “the machine is broken, only americano” (I was part of an organised tour so I guess they wanted to save moneys on the breakfast...but I would have rather have had a nicer “Sorry but...” at least the rest of the breakfast was ok...even if getting hot milk seemed a mission impossible task... If their quality would better match with their first impact image that would be better... would I be back!?not sure...still trying to forget the old nut sitting in the corner of the room...
