"Weekend Gateway!"
August 2018
This is a great hotel due to it being within walking distance to downtown Gatlinburg. It was a great value. The room was okay. The tub had hair in the drain and the pillows were flat and not very comfortable.
I would give this place a 3 star but giving it 4 because on our way back to the hotel, the key was deactivated. It was after midnight. The hotel had 3 keys taped to the lobby door. I don't know how safe that is but sure glad they had it.

The staff was so pleasant. This motor inn is well kept, a 3 minute walk to downtown Gatlinburg, and very friendly. A great value! We will be staying here again.

"average accommodations good service"

It was an okay place to stay for an inexpensive getaway with my small children. No complaints and lower rating is only because the hotel is a bit dated, but for the price it is a good value!

"A very sad last visit to Gatlinburg"

This will most likely be my mom’s last opportunity to visit a place that she loves deeply and has been coming to since she was a little girl. Not only did the ill tempered and unexpectedly rude front desk agent inform us that our reservation made thru Booking.com did not exist - he told me to leave. If it was not for my mother being of the age she is - we would not have had a room for the night. If you are young, or not white - expect to not get a room. Then once we did get a room - the sheets were very stained - it took over an hour for us to receive clean sheets and caused us to miss our dinner at her favorite restaurant. No apology was offered. Only an obnoxious and upsetting and bigoted man with no guest service skills saying it was a privilege for us to be able to even get a room from him. This property does not even deserve to be listed on TripAdvisor much less have an excellence designation from them. Too many other options in Gatlinburg that provide at least a smile.

"Great location but no elevator"

The hotel is very reasonable cost wise and very conveniently located within walking distance of the Gatlinburg strip. The rooms are clean and decent for the price. If you have mobility issues, there are no elevators and you have to take stairs to the second floor. I fell down the steps our first day there and hurt my ankle pretty badly.

"Will not stay again."

The only redeeming quality of this place is the location. Yes you can walk straight to downtown Gatlinburg, but that’s it! The sheets had rips and stains, the walls are paper thin so even if your neighbor uses the bathroom in the night it’ll wake you up. The plumbing here is extremely noisy and the shower doesn’t stay on the same temperature for more than 30 seconds. It doesn’t look clean, the appliances and fixtures are dated. Bathroom isn’t more than a broom closet. We were using this hotel as a crash pad but I honestly will never stay here again.

Great price and great location. Less than 5 minutes walk to the main drag. Our room was spacious and comfortable and quite adequate for our needs. After a hot day the pools looked great but we didn't have chance to use them. Overall a great little hotel at a great price

"Location so good even the bears love it!"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5

Spent a week at Mountain House and was surprised several nights to be awaken by what I thought was a trash truck emptying a dumpster. Imagine my surprise to discover that there was a bear that came to visit in the wee hours. As long as you stay in your room at night, Mountain House is okay. Nothing fancy, as it is fairly old and housekeeping service is spotty at best, but the office staff is very helpful and the price was right.
