We spent Labor Day weekend in one of the river guestrooms. We had a lovely view of the James River and being on the ground floor, we were able to walk out onto the immaculately manicured lawn and the path along the river. We ate at every restaurant on the property and the food was great. We took advantage of the free shuttle because it was hotter than expected. Great service. The couple's massage at the spa was lovely. I also had the rejuvenating facial, which I found to be just that. We rented bikes and the path around the area was mostly flat, paved and in the shade, so perfect for me who hadn't been on a bike in years. Has a great time at the main pool. We went in to Colonial Williamsburg for a couple of hours, which was just enough. Overall, a very enjoyable weekend.

"Great golf experience"

We enjoyed spending a few days with friends at Kingsmill. We played both golf courses and they were both very nice and in good condition. We didn't feel like the course was too busy so we didn't feel rushed. The staff was friendly and helpful. We weren't pleased with the room that they gave us and they promptly moved us to a better room. The breakfast was included in our golf package rate and it was very good- large selection, freshly made omlets that were cooked very well by a super sweet lady and plenty of fresh fruit. We used the pool by the spa and it was lovely. The overall setting, grounds and views are beautiful.

"Bad restaurant experience good resort"

Had a really bad experience with the breakfast. Hostess seated at a small table even though the restaurant was empty and seated many other couple after us on bigger tables near window with views. Waitress did not attend to us for a while and did not clear our plates after they were sitting there. Other people I saw got checked on multiple times and things were done differently for them. I felt very much like they didnt want to serve me and my wife and ruined my experience at the resort. I usually dont right reviews or comments but really hated how they had me and my wife feel that day, like second class citizens. My wife didnt want to make a scene or ruin the day by spending more time here so I didnt pursue talking to anyone there, just wanted people to know the bias that might happen if you dont look a certain way.

"Cottage / Condo Comparison"

Our family group of 15 rented a 2 bedroom condo and a cottage. We were hoping (and asked for) the closest condo to the cottages so that we could walk over between locations, but were actually put at the furthest condo from the cottages. We spent most of our time at the cottage as it is much nicer than the condo, though you'll pay for it, obviously. The condos were nice but not really luxurious by any means. We were on the ground floor and as such the rooms were rather dark. The walls and ceiling were paper-thin and noise was an issue as many have mentioned. Although I must say that the pull-out sofa bed was the most comfortable sofa bed I've ever slept on. There wasn't that one bar across the middle that's always jabbing into your shins or lower back. The cottage was much more open and airy-feelng as well as brighter and noise was not an issue. I also liked the proximity to the main pool area. Our family of 15 hung out in the living area daily and it never seemed too crowded. And the view was wonderful. We never even stepped foot inside any of the on-site restaurants as doing takeout and eating in the cottage was not only considerably more affordable but also much more social and stress-free. Everything was nice to semi-luxury, but the staff was really outstanding. We had a large group so we had the large bus to shuttle us to and from the off-site shuttle stop, which was nice.

"Labor Day Stay"

Originally had booked a first class flight/hotel to Delray Beach for our baby moon but had to cancel last minute due to Hurricane Dorian. Scrambling to find another place to go since we had taken off for vacation this weekend, my husband had visited Kingsmill Resort with his family 7 years back and told me since I wanted a spa experience at the very least, we should drive there instead. We called and they said they were booked for the weekend (no surprise since it was last minute on a major holiday weekend) they called back saying they had a handicapped room available so we took it. Told there would be 2 queen beds and a full bathroom. Arriving there, weather was nice and it seemed decent but the room was probably the worst part. Bugs inside (i know thats the climate there it seems because we saw a lizard on our outside deck and a gopher that lived underneath the steps), mildew smell inside, carpet ripping up in some places, beds were definitely NOT queen, they were twin almost and the shower flooded the entire bathroom. Housekeeping didn't even take our trash everyday and they frequently left trays, glasses, trash on the lawn after they left for the day. We drove 6 hours from PA here so we sucked it up for the weekend, paying for the spa showers instead. Their spa experience was nice and the pool was clean. Overpriced breakfast, do not recommend. Buffet for $60 for 2 people when the waitress couldn't even understand I wanted apple juice was also annoying. When my husband checked out for the weekend (we checked out a night early since we couldn't stand it anymore), he told them our experience and was hit with just "I'm sorry" and we got charged an early departure fee of $229. Needless to say I called day after Labor Day to complain and was told we were double charged for a night, taxes, not to mention they were holding 2 transactions from the breakfast and James Landing Grill we charged to our room. They gave us close to $600 back and apologized that we didn't receive the "Kingsmill Experience". Honestly, do not know if I would go back to try a nicer room but beware it might not be as nice as some people say. I also forgot to mention the family that stayed in the room above us sounded like they were running constantly and very loud at night when trying to go to sleep so that was an added annoyance.
