This property is at that awkward intersection of “five star” and “extremely dated.” Really, it’s not at all a five star property in its current state. Guest rooms reek of must/mold. Old mattresses expired long ago - and are hard and miserable. I don’t understand how Marriott can even allow the “JW” brand to remain on this hotel until it’s renovated. Avoid it. Avoid it. There’s a decent Conrad one block away if you need to be in this part of Brickell.

We stayed for a weekend which was tied to a meeting and the JW Marriott served our needs very well. We were lucky and had a room on the concierge level and it also had a good sized balcony attached to it. The only downside of the room was that it was a bit small and the balcony door prevented placing a night stand on both sides of the bed. Otherwise we were very happy with the condition and comfort of the room. The service from the front desk, to the concierge lounge, to the breakfast room was all first class. Everyone treated us with such kindness from beginning to end. The weather wasn't all that cooperative so we didn't try the pool area. One thing that seemed apparent is that the pool area could use more chairs as every seat was filled. Perhaps more our out on nicer days as the pool area is quite large. A nice bar is also available poolside. I personally like the location. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport if traffic is moving and one can use the people mover system to go into downtown. The Brickell area also has lots of restaurants and some bars as well within easy walking distance. The hotel has announced a slight makeover. This will be welcome as the hotel shows of few signs of age. Nothing horrible, but a bit of modernization and refresh will help and might raise my score to excellent. I will certainly consider this JW Marriott Brickell on my next Miami visit.

My wife and I only stayed one night prior to joining a cruise ship. If we were staying longer than one night I would have complained, the room was horrible, damp and musty and in need of a good clean. The bed however was comfortable, can't really comment anymore other than we were glad to leave

To set the context - I had booked a small hotel on Miami Beach, to attend the 'sell-out' Seatrade Global Cruise Conference. This coincided with a Miami Heat game and the filming of a movie in downtown Miami. After 20 minutes in my original hotel I called the Marriott number and made the booking. I paid royally for the privilege of being a Marriott Bonvoy member, but got a room. In general staff are good. The Concierge, (and sadly I forget his name) was just fantastic. Whenever I was there he seemed to be there. Where can I buy Cuban cigars for a colleague?, Where is the nearest ........?, he had it all, and everything communicated and followed up with a smile. 2 or 3 Front-office staff, ditto. This hotel is 'old' and furnishings and decor could do with an update - it is a bit tired, but in general the location and facilities are good, and the rooms are spacious. After a busy day in the convention center, a relaxing nightcap on the verandah was great and all in all the staff were cordial, chatty and professional. The Terrace Bar was quiet, and I enjoyed dinner and drinks there. This all came to an abrupt halt on my last evening, and I shall state it here that in 40 years in the hotel business, having stayed in hundreds of hotels (and knowing both the CEO of Marriott, and been privileged to meet Bill Marriott, and (I think) knowing their work ethic), I have never seen any staff member in any hotel being so abusive, willfully obnoxious, rude and aggressive as the 'security' who was closing the restaurant that night. I had invited a business colleague there for concluding a business discussion, and the staff were as always very accommodating. After about 30 minutes I asked we be given 5 minutes and we would go to the lobby downstairs. The next thing was the terrace door being pushed open with a bang and this security guy announced "You need to get out of here now, I'm closing"! 5 Minutes before I had "Sir, is the anything else I can get you now, we are about to call last round". I have no idea where this came from or who taught this guy manners or if anyone had actually given him training in the basics of hospitality service. It was so bad it could have been prank from "Mall Cop", and his approach was that a facing a street riot, not a conservative wood paneled lounge. My response of "Excuse me ..........." was interrupted and with "Take your drinks and go now, I'm done here"! I raised this complaint the next morning, in a serious sit-down discussion with the Front-Office Supervisor, but have never received any explanation nor follow up. Disappointing!

You will be treated like royalty. That should say everything. This hotel is all about service. You can’t walk anywhere in this hotel with out someone checking to make sure you are ok and asking if you need anything. Simply AMAZING.
