"Terrible food, rooms, and service - good location"

Poorly managed hotel. They just don’t care or try - they charge exorbitantly based on a name (which seems tarnished as of this posting as the Del is ranked #14 out of 17 hotels in Coronado on TripAdvisor). The kids club is atrocious - they made it seem so nice online with different activities and I was looking forward to utilizing it heavily - however the staff is highly incompetent and it looks super shady - the hotel was sold out and my kids were the only ones at the kids club (for good reason) we used it for an hour and never went back (my son had a huge bump on his head from being there and nobody told me - and they were signed up for “dinosaur discovery” and didn’t even do that activity). The kids club schedule they leave in the hotel rooms says there’s a 4 hour kids club cancellation policy but when you try to cancel they won’t let you citing a 24 hour cancellation policy - I had to show them their own policy on their own paper to be able to cancel. It was also closed with no notice for half our trip. We also noticed that the kids club worker also was as a waitress by the pool when she wasn’t working the kids club which is odd. The hotel service all around is truly lacking. We called to have our room cleaned at 8am and they arrived to clean it at 12:47 right during my sons nap which is the reason we called at 8am hoping they would come sometime before noon. The food was below average and especially because it cost at least 2-4x the price it should be IF it tasted good and it doesn’t. I tried frozen drinks from 4 of the Del’s different bars/restaurants — all undrinkable (lower quality than at an all inclusive). S’mores for 4 people cost almost $300 (we ate a few Hershey bars, some marshmallows and a few crackers! But we did have our own fire pit which was nice). Our s’mores pit reservation was 7:30 and we arrived at 7:20 and they told us to come back - all requests at this hotel are going to be answered with a “no” so you’ll have to get used to that if you stay. Breakfast for 2 at Sheerwater was $180 for two people and really blah. The changing rooms by the pool are closed for renovation so the bathrooms are completely dirty and wet. The Del asks you when you reserve room reservations on their website “are you celebrating a special occasion?” - I wrote, yes as a matter of fact I was!and gave my birthday details (I normally wouldn’t but I was turning 40! So I gushed the details) but then of course they didn’t even acknowledge my birthday - so I asked them why they asked if I’m celebrating - just so they could ignore it? So they sent me a bottle of sparking apple cider the day after my birthday (because what 40 year old doesn’t love celebrating with apple juice? But thank you for sending something - my kids enjoyed it). My husband gave the spa his credit card and booked me a massage a week before we arrived - when I went to check out they said he didn’t - so on my 40th birthday the very unpleasant and unhappy spa check out person who seems to hate working there made me pay $312 for my birthday massage (which was supposed to be my husbands gift to me) - she didn’t care or say happy birthday or call him to re-obtain his payment which they obviously lost - she just looked like she hates the Del and all of its customers - I should coin that face the “Del look” because many employees have it. My $500/night room faces a noisy parking lot (see attached photo). There is construction all over the property (which I assume that current guests are paying for the reno as sky high prices are baked into everything). You need to use your room card to access the pool (understandable) however a Del worker stood by the pool entrance and waited for me to open the door for her saying she had to make sure we were guests at the hotel and couldn’t open the door for us (yes ma’am, let the guests open the door open for YOU - you go first! I’ll hold the door open for you while juggling my beach bag and cocktail and child......). I requested a room upgrade online and nobody acknowledged I made the request or if it was or was not available. I booked a room online in the newer tower and was given a different room then I booked. It’s basically like staying at an econo lodge room and paying Disney/Four Seasons/Ritz Carlton prices without the service or smiles or quality. My husband came here every summer as a child for 16 years and we were hoping to make this a multi-week summer tradition for our family - but sadly, it’s not worth my vacation time. I’m giving an extra star because it’s easy to get to from airport, the location is on the beach, the massage therapist was talented and the ice cream place “Sundaes” was delicious. We enjoyed the (overpriced but fun to go once) Sunday brunch at crown room - where the one employee who was happy to work at the Del named Mark (blond hair), actually smiled and said hi to us twice - thanks Mark!

"Shame on you Hilton!!"

A positive to start. Amazing looking hotel on a beautiful beach. We are currently staying here and booked in February of this year. We booked an island 2 queen suite. On arrival we were given our room and after being shown the map of how to get to the room I questioned the view to be told currently it was a construction site. Our fears came true at 745 am when the diggers rollled in and woke us all up. There were no other rooms of that type available as the hotel was full. Hilton are still not able to fulfil our booking they have moved us to a room with a sofa bed! Not great but something we will take up on our return especially when we are paying over 3000 dollars for 5 nights. When booking this hotel make sure you are aware that there is a huge amount of construction going on at present. If we were told we would never have booked!

-Front desk manager, Hanna, very rude (actually said "you should call your management friends" when discussing my reservations with her) -Planned 60th Wedding Anniversary for my parents in April, with multiple follow-ups with stand. Booked three rooms. Only one room was honored, and that room was under construction (awnings had been removed from balcony, without notifying us that the room (or the hotel for that matter) was under construction. I'm still waiting for promised umbrellas to be brought up to the room (I've checked out and am back in San Francisco). -Was never told about construction in hotel. -Asked to move to the Beach Village at the Del, but was told (by Hanna) that there were no rooms available. I found availability on YOUR website, and went down to the front desk to speak to Hanna about it. I finally gave up. -Bags were left at the front desk. After four calls, over mutilple hours, in which we were told "there is one family ahead of us", bags never came. Had to go down to the lobby at midnight (with our 8 year old niece well past her bedtime), at which point bellman said "we never received an order for this bag). Found bag in storage area next to front desk. -Room service order was wrong, required 3 trips to get it right. Twice. -Plumbing didn't work in one of the rooms. -All calls to the front desk were routed to hold music. Four times I was put "on hold" for ten minutes plus (once to get my car, once for room service). -Was told we would be credited for a night in each room for the multiple issues we endured, was only comped one night, for one room. -Spent $200+ to rent beach chairs and umbrellas. When we showed up to have them placed, we were told they were "out of towels", but that we could "go get some" at the pool. Got to the pool and were told they were "short on towels" and we could only have 2, for 5 people. -Ordered flowers to be sent to the room prior to check-in. Via the concierge. Weeks in advance. Received a call from the concierge while at the airport that they could not deliver the flowers because my reservation "had been canceled". It hadn't been canceled. -Had to wait for our car endlessly, each time we left the hotel. Couldn't call down for the car in advance, because we were put on hold for "guest services" for 10 min at a time. This is as much as I have time for this morning. My parents were engaged at the Del 61 years ago. I saved an entire year to be able to afford this trip for my family. It was a disaster, and so sad to see. We've been staying at the hotel for decades. This will be our last visit.

"Worst HOTEL EVER"

This has to be the biggest hotel disappointment I’ve ever had. DO NOT STAY HERE . It is over priced , the service is awful, the rooms are run down, and it will not be the vacation you are dreaming of, not even close! I could go on and on, but the dissatisfaction started immediately - room service can’t get anything right, long waits for bad restaurants, hotel staff is unhappy and not helpful, everything has a huge price tag that isn’t worth it. (it’s $100 to sit in a chair on the beach) BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER TO STAY HERE AND WILL NEVER RETURN!!!

I’m writing this from our room at the Hotel Del, and I strongly encourage you to stay elsewhere. Sure, the hotel is historic and beautiful and a San Diego icon. That’s great and all, but the experience of staying here is pretty crummy. It takes forever to check in. It takes forever to get your car from the valet (30 minutes! This is crazy!). Our room smells like smoke. The beds are terribly uncomfortable, and the two restaurants we have tried have been mediocre at best (and so expensive! It’s insane!). I’m just not a fan.
