What a wonderful day we had on this trip. Our tour guide Bob was so interesting and very knowledgeable about the history, geology, etc. He also had a great sense of humor and kept us laughing. We would highly recommend this trip. We didn't have any children with us, but I can see Bob making this trip very enjoyable for kids as well.

Great day trip to the Grand Canyon South Rim from Vegas with Adventure Photo Tours. Wanted to visit the South Rim and chose to go on this trip after reading all the good reviews. They were not wrong. The trip could not have been better. The tour bus arrived promptly at 5.30 am and the lady ( I think her name was Lynn ) provided us with the breakfast bag and juice. There was to be a party of 13 on this day - December the 30th. Everyone was on time so we got a good start. She informed us that she was just taking us to the Hover Dam where we would meet Bob who would be our guide for the Canyon. Our route took us via Bolder City which was interesting to see, then drove over and stopped at the Hover Dam for a photo shoot. She told us interesting facts along the way. As Bob was stuck in traffic we had a extra little trip to see Lake Mead. The rising sun on the mountains made for a spectacular backdrop. Had a rest stop at the Hoover Dam Lodge ( a charming little place with photos of the dam being constructed ) where there was a chance for coffee/restrooms and to meet Bob. We set off for the next part of the journey to Kingman Arizona for our Route 66 stop which was at the Power House Route 66 Museum and Visitor Center. The two gift shops there provided an opportunity to pick up some Route 66 Souvenirs. Then it was a short journey to the next restroom stop just outside of Williams and then on to the canyon. Our guide Bob is quite a character and a great guy. Along with the stunning scenery, he made the long journey to the canyon a breeze. His passion for his job and the places and the geology of the area are evident in his commentary, which is interspersed with witty banter and jokes. He also takes a keen interest in his passengers, asking about where they are from etc. There was a family from Australia and a family from Mexico and two young ladies from Japan, along with ourselves from England. He says he thinks he talks too much, but he has a nice voice which is easy to listen to and you never tire of. He is always offering to take photos as well. On arrival at the canyon it was busy and there was a bit of a queue to enter the park. It was no problem, as to ensure we had a full 3 hours at the canyon, Bob would not give a departure time until we had actually arrived ! Once parked at Mather Point, there were options to walk the trail in various lengths or stay with Bob for the ride between the viewpoints. There had been snow at the canyon and the paths were quite icy and slippy, so chose to stick with Bob. The National Park Visitor Center is also here. You had the option of taking your packed lunch at any time and there was as much water as you wanted. All the viewpoints were amazing. The third - Angel Point provided different places to go inside and thaw numb photo taking hands ! Because of the shorter winter days we had the chance to see the sunset just before our time to depart. On the way back there was the inevitable time when everyone falls asleep, including me I'm afraid to say - I'd been awake since the early hours not wanting to miss the morning alarm ! One person who had to keep awake however, was Bob. Greatest respect and admiration for all tour drivers who have just as long a day as us, but have to keep alert to drive us safely back. I don't know how they do it. On the return to Vegas, Bob was pointing out good places to eat whilst dropping people off at there respective hotels. Took his advise about the buffet in the casino across from where we were staying and went on New Years Day. It was great - Bob came up trumps again ! If you are in Vegas and planning a visit to the canyon, book with Adventure Photo Tours. The West rim has the Skywalk and helicopter flights, but the South Rim is the most spectacular. A Happy New Year ( and New Decade ! ) to Bob and all the team at Adventure Photo Tours and a very big Thank You for a day to remember.. Ken. PS New to Tripadvisor and tried to add some photos - did not realize they take time to appear and may have posted a few of the same picture thinking it had not worked. Will try to amend and change them. If I am unable to do this I may have to delete and re-submit this review. Thanks again ! Read less Date of experience: December 2019

"Value of Fire---a worthwhile experience"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed December 30, 2019 NEW
I have for some time wanted to see and photograph the Valley of Fire so booked a day trip last week with this company when I was in Las Vegas. No real complaints as the trip went pretty much as advertised. However, I am not really sure why they call themselves a "photo tour" company since it did not seem at all to be designed with photographers specifically. It is fine for any tourist wanting to see this park, but I would not say it is really a photo tour. If that is what you after, you may not get what you expected. For me, I did not care so much as I was more interested in seeing this place at all.

"Excellent Small Group Grand Canyon South Rim + Hoover Dam Tour"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5
Reviewed December 28, 2019 NEW
My two teenage daughters and I took this tour in December. They gave us a precise pickup time from Palazzo where we were staying (550 am) and we got picked up by Bob in a Nissan mini bus that seats about 9 people. The breakfast was OJ/Apple juice and a bag with a muffin/string cheese from a local bakery. The trip is long...we weren't back until 8.30 pm and that too with very little traffic or other delays. The van is comfortable (no power sockets by seats though Bob wil plug in your device up front if you need a recharge) we had a total of only five guests including us. The Hoover Dam stop is brief (don't expect to go into visitor center or the glass walk) but enough...we made a couple of other pit stops on the nearly 300-mile one-way ride. Bob is very chatty, funny and gives enormous amount of information on anything and everything (don't get him started on UFOs) and the ride didn't feel that long. We got about three hours time at the South Rim and that was plenty...with Bob offering to talk about the three main look out points or give a ride if you didn't feel like walking the trail. We got a mostly sunny not very cold day (even if there was snow on the ground) and enjoyed walking the trail by ourselves. The Canyon totally lived up to our first-time expectations. Lunch was pre-ordered Subway type deli food, with cookies and chips and water (plenty of it in the van) that Bob hands out. The return had two similar pit stops. All in all was worth the extra money you pay for small tours (versus the bus) and while a bit tiring, it was a good outing. And don't forget to tip Bob. He can also give you a lot of tips on Vegas if you have any questions on way back.

What a great experience to see Hoover Dam and then on to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This was a small group tour, which we really appreciated. We got well acqauinted with the other three tourists and with our guide Bob. Bob was friendly, courteous, very knowledgable, and entertaining. This was a 15 hour tour, but he kept it interesting and kept the needs of us tourists in mind. Thanks, Bob McCrater......
