"Charming but not modern "

Our first trip to the USA so don’t have any reference point and we had been told not to expect European style hotels. But this appears to be a great little hotel, ok the rooms are not massive but ours had two doubles and an adjacent sitting room with sofa and tv and a bathroom with bath. If we’re being honest it is a little dated and probably due a bit of an upgrade but the staff are really helpful and the room was always clean and warm. A great location just off Central Park so if you to walk its a nice walk 45 minute walk through the park onto 59th street and the start of the madness or is that midtown. Nice neighbourhood with plenty of good places to eat in walking distance, try Good enough to eat or Zabar’s for a great breakfast. Only slight gripe is the lack of tea / coffee making facilities in the room but there is free tea / coffee from 7am to 11am in the lobby. If we are ever back in the big Apple 🍎 we will definitely return.

"They enter rooms even though you ask not to."

I was extremely disturbed by someone entering room and making my bed and doing other things, when I had sign "do not disturb" hanging on the door knob. I reported it right away, and they said they will look into it and get back to me, but no one followed up and contacted me. I don't know if this is normal in New York - but to me it's unacceptable. The other thing that annoyed me was a "facility fee" - they said it's charged in every hotel in New York, but I don't care for it regardless. I thought this is something that can be waved away if you don't use fitness room ,for example, but they said it's firm and unavoidable. The question then - why is it not a part of the advertised price? Sounds like some sort of swindle to me.

"Surprisingly Nice Hotel on Upper West Side"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

I recently spent 5 nights here because I needed to be on the Upper West Side. I didn't have great expectations, but I really enjoyed this hotel. It felt very European and slightly old fashioned I had a double double room which was small but not tiny and the room and bathroom were clean and always cleaned very well each day. I travel with scented candles and I never even had to use them because the room smelled neutral which is just fine. They have a $20 brunch 5 days a week which I never used and it was impossible to get a cup of coffee to go or to sit down with from the women who ran the breakfast place on the 2nd floor. There is a single cup machine in the lobby but the line for it was often 5 people deep, so this lack of coffee was the only negative. There are two great coffeeshops up on Columbus but it was 35 degrees and it required getting dressed to go out to get the coffee. So, if I ever stay there for more than 3 or 4 nights again, I will buy a small coffee pot for my room. The upgraded rooms had little sitting rooms and I saw one room with a tiny kitchen, so there are options.

"Mixed feelings."

Stayed here twice. First was to join tour group - room was quite dark and dingy. Bathroom very small. Second was on my own two weeks later. Room was spacious and had outlook over to park. Bathroom was a little larger. No coffee/tea or fridge in rooms, although there is coffee/tea supplied in the mornings in reception. This is an older style décor hotel. The front desk were very helpful. Metro is at end of street. Plenty of eateries around.

"Good location but not the best hotel"

This hotel is an excellent location so close to Central Park and the natural history museum. Sadly although the rooms are clean they are dated and lacking in facilities - coffee is served downstairs in lobby no fridge/microwave in room like so many US hotel bathroom tiny and very old fashioned. Good air con but so so noisy take ear plugs to sleep. Front desk staff were helpful and sorted out corkscrew and taxi to airport No bar as advertised was a real disappointment Breakfast was good but area not kept that clean and staff not particularly friendly For £250 a night I would expect a lot more from this hotel
