Very impressed with the hotel. Lobby very nice and big. Service was good. Needs some updates here and there in the rooms and hallways but other than that everything was good. A few blocks away from the main attractions but not far at all.

We've been to Tropicano a few times, and have generally enjoyed our stay each time. It's a fair price for a modest room, and it's conveniently located on the River Walk. The rooms are clean, the beds and bedding are good, and the staff is pretty helpful. That being said, our last experience left a bit to be desired. The biggest issue was the staff's total destruction of our ability to complete a good night's rest on a Sunday morning after staying up late on Saturday. At 7:30 a.m., a loud mix of party music cranked up all around the pool near our room. This lasted more than five minutes before I called the front desk to ask for quiet; the clerk admitted it was something the hotel was responsible for, and it lasted a few more minutes before finally turning off. When we managed to fall back asleep, the same thing happened again at 9:30 sharp. Like before, it took a phone call and ten minutes to have quiet again outside our window. About an hour after that, housekeeping began a succession of door slams as they went about their rounds; sometimes we could feel the walls rattle from these big, full slams. This was still going on when we were checking out. The housekeeping ladies were also chattering loudly in the hallway outside our room at several points in the morning. The clerk informed us the music was all a mistaken programming glitch with the sound system at the pool. She tossed us a halfhearted apology, and offered nothing for the trouble. The window views at this hotel took a big downgrade when a mega-hotel went up directly across the street. You must pay $30 to park your car overnight in an open-air lot, which was half the price of the room. We like the bar and snack counter they have in the lobby, but there's no free breakfast; you have to pay $11. It's an historic hotel with some cool features, but we're going to think twice about our next stay at the Tropicano.

"Noisy neighbors as a wakeup call"

The hotel itself is nice, older and in need of updates but for a quick two night priceline trip it was OK. Just a short walk from the Riverwalk and a bit longer from the activity on the Riverwalk. As far as location I liked it as it wasn't in all the madness that can be the River. The valet's are good at their job and the txting system for getting your car is great. On the downside: When I looked up pricing of parking online before the trip it was $16 for self park or $20 for valet. When I asked the hotel staff, they said it was $29 for either. Seemed higher than other parking in hotels closer to the Riverwalk. The room I had was noisy, period. I was in 813 and the first night I could hear various sirens. The 2nd night there was a "party in 815" as I could clearly hear that comment and the 2 hr slamming doors and back and forth of children. Not ideal for those looking for rest, for those that are there to have fun and wake up late it probably doesn't matter. The biggest gripe, at check out there was no hotel staff at the front desk. It was ~5am on 11/24. I ran out as the valets (have I mentioned they do a good job?) had my car down already. One of the valet's went and woke up the hotel attendet that had obviously fallen asleep. That and the fact that I had set a wake up call with the hotel I never received had me write this review. It's a good thing that the noisy neighbours were a better wake up call than the sleepy hotel front desk.
