THE GARDEN DISTRICT

The Garden District survives as a showcase of magnificent houses and gardens. Hear the stories of the cotton brokers and commission merchants who made their home in the Garden District.

ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE NEIGHBORHOODS IN ALL OF AMERICA

The Garden District became a fashionable enclave of New Orleans' most successful American citizens, and moving "Uptown" to the prestigious Garden District was considered the culmination of one's achievements.

LAFAYETTE CEMETERY #1 Please Note: The City of New Orleans has closed the cemetery for repairs and will not reopen until the Spring of 2020. While the cemetery is closed, The Savvy Native has expanded its Garden District Tour to include historical sites not normally included in our 2-hour tour.

"Once again, citizens heard the dreaded call of "bring out your dead" given by cart drivers relieving residents of rotting corpses and hauling them to mass graves here and around the city."

Our Garden District Tour includes time spent in Lafayette Cemetery. Originally part of the Livaudais Plantation, Lafayette Cemetery has been used for burials since at least 1824. Lafayette Cemetery #1 is the first and oldest municipal cemetery in New Orleans.

My wife and I took this tour with The Savvy Native Walking Tours. Our guide, Karen, was great! During the two hour tour she gave us a detailed and very interesting understanding of the history of this most unique place that is the New Orleans French Quarter. At the end of the tour Karen also provided some tips on areas to visit for food and drink, which proved to be spot on. Many thanks to Karen for her knowledge and hospitality! We’ll be back!

David contacted us the night before our tour to touch base and confirm meet up details. His groups are on the smaller side which affords you the chance to listen intently, ask tons of questions and have the tour tailored to you. We took the early morning combo tour of the French Quarter and the St Louis Cemetery. David's knowledge, wit and ability to tell a story in such an intriguing way made him exceptional! We ran across many other tours along the and they were HUGE and no tour guide was as engaging as David. I highly recommend him and any of his tours!

An excellent tour for learning photography insider tips while taking your own shots capturing stories of New Orlean's French Quarter. Photo Don is personable, informative, funny and a teacher who lets you do the shooting. On our next NOLA visit, we will definitely take another savvy native tour with Photo Don.

Our tour guide, Jonn, was nothing short of phenomenal. We books a tour of the French Quarters and a Cemetery tour mid morning on a Sunday. It was the perfect day and he was so accommodating and full of information. Definitely a highlight during our trip!

This was our first trip to New Orleans. For our first day in the city my husband and I booked Donald for an advanced tour and it was so much fun! What a great intro to a fascinating city! He knows so much about not only photography, but the history of the city of New Orleans as well. Donald was warm, welcoming and has a lovely sense of humor! His recommendations were also spot on for food, places to see and where to go for music. Next time we are in town, we'll be booking him again!
