"Worse vacation in quite a while"
October 2016
First of all Dayton House has 3 buildings. We were given a room in the one across the street from the beach . Don't ever stay there. we were startled awake every morning by a noise. The final straw came when they were repairing the roof, much banging and hammering and we were not warned nor offered a different room while this was going on. When I called the front desk they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about but said that he would call us back. Never received a call back. Secondly, do not be deceived by the name,no way was that a RESORT. There was a red stain on the carpet and on the mattress, I'll let you decide what that might have been.

"Wonderful! But needs more handicap parking.."
June 2016
I just returned from my first trip to Myrtle Beach. The Dayton House is a great place to stay. We had a beautiful, clean partial ocean view room, and the hotel has three pools, two Jacuzzis, and a lazy river. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, and they are a short distance from the fabulous Broadway on the Beach. The grounds at the Dayton House were immaculately kept. It's a great place for families. And the price was very reasonable, a great value for what you get. The only problem I had was parking..We had a disabled adult that's in a wheelchair and it was really hard finding handicap parking. I had to drop that person off and then park a distance from the motel which I wasn't fond of but I would still recommend the Dayton House.

"Relaxing At The Dayton House Resort"
July 2015
This was our first time staying in Myrtle Beach and we took a chance booking a Hotel we had never been to. We had a great stay. We were upgraded to a ocean view suite as soon as we checked in. The yello umbrella area was a great addition to our stay. Never had to worry about finding a place to lay out and enjoy the ocean. The pools were fantastic and not overly crowded. We plan to come back again next year, because this Hotel is centrally located with plenty of restaurants and fun places to go.

We had a great view of the ocean from our room, but that was the only thing to write home about. The room was an older room and you could tell it had been remodeled several times.

We were able to check in early and our room was very nice, functional room for the money. We didn't use any of the facilities, but other than a noisy shower we were very satisfied and got what we paid for. We have stayed here before and will again

"Overall nice place to stay at Myrtle Beach"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5
Reviewed August 11, 2020 NEW
This was my second stay at the Dayton House Resort and it was just as good as the last! My oceanfront room was renovated, clean, and well-appointed. I am VERY peculiar about cleanliness. I examine every nook and crannie of a room before I unpack, and I was pleased. The carpet was clean, the sheets were clean, I saw no dust, and the kitchen and bathroom were spotless. We did have trouble with our balcony door getting stuck, but maintenance came right away and replaced the roller on the door and it was as good as new. I loved the pools and hot tubs and the lazy river was a nice way to cool off on a hot day. The tanning lawn is a great place to tan on a lounge or have a meal and one of the tables under the yellow umbrellas. It is also very convenient to have a bar right by the pool to get drinks and lunch or a snack. I only have two complaints. The main pool was a little murky. Not bad enough that I was afraid to get into it, but it could have been cleaner. There was a DJ by the pool blasting music every day. i like to hear music, but it was entirely too loud. Made it hard to relax. Overall, my stay at the Dayton House was great and I will be back.

"Not as advertised! Old and smelly!"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5
Reviewed August 01, 2020 NEW
First of all, this was not what was advertised. 1. The only thing "updated" was the kitchen in our suite. 2. Everything else was chipping off and old. Even my son said it smelled like a hospital mixed with a nursing home. 3. This was the only hotel/resort that I have EVER been to that only has sheets on the beds. No comforter just a sheet!! 4. I couldn't find a channel lineup. I called the front desk and the manager couldn't tell me who the carrier was so I could look online. They couldn't tell me the tv guide channel either. It took almost two days to find all that out. They said they would call me back to tell me and never did. 5. Housekeeping never cleaned the room! They picked up towels and trash. We ran out of toilet paper and had to call and they never brought it. I had to take some off of a housekeeping cart I saw! 6. The AC sounded like it was going to explode when it came on. 7. The elevators were nasty and the pools were cloudy with the exception of one. ( I own a pool so I know what it takes to keep one clean) I won't ever stay there again!!

"Unclean and minimal mask wearing"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed July 30, 2020 NEW
I traveled in late July 2020 for my daughter's softball tournament. I was concerned about traveling to Myrtle Beach due to the reports about its COVID rates, but had read that the city mandates wearing masks in public spaces. Note that there are several buildings to this hotel. We stayed in the South Building. Upon entering the room, I cleaned with my own antibacterial wipes. I didn't expect the room to be spotless, but the wipes were very dirty. The next day, I discovered that there was room service, which I didn't expect during our stay (due to COVID). I called the office and asked that nobody enters our room. We didn't have a "do not disturb" door hanger in our room, so I picked one up in the office. I also learned that a teammate of my daughter was missing $20 from their room after room service had been in their room. Although signs were posted about wearing masks, I saw few people wearing them in the elevators and around the property. The pools were very crowded. Staff were not visible. And, I saw someone come onto our floor and put local restaurant menus under the doors. He was not wearing a mask and had easy access to the hallways and rooms. Finally, I had to go to the office several times because our room keys stopped working. One time, an employee rudely told me that I can't put it near my phone because it would deactivate it.

"You will have a great stay if you are lucky and get a room that’s been cleaned and doesn’t have cockroaches"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5
Reviewed July 27, 2020 NEW
Let me start out by saying that we stayed at Dayton House for the first time in 2019 and had a good experience. I entered a photo of my son into one of the photo contests and he won, so for our 2020 stay, we had 3 complimentary nights out of our week long stay. I did get a very decent price on our stay, but that doesn’t change my expectations or standards at all.. We should have had an amazing experience regardless of that. We arrived at Dayton House much earlier than I had planned after traveling 8 hours from Maryland. Upon arrival, I requested early check in and received a call very soon after leaving the check in office and they had a room “ready for us.” Upon entering the room, I sanitized things with my own supplies, due to Covid and while doing so, I found that most surfaces hadn’t been wiped down.. in quite some time. No big deal - I didn’t complain because I don’t like to nit pick. Later on when I went into the bathroom to shower, I noticed a VERY OBVIOUS orange pill laying behind the toilet, along with other filth that wasn’t cleaned. There were pieces of hair on the shower mat that didn’t belong to our party, along with the pill, as we hadn’t even touched the bathroom or shower yet since check in. I did call the front office to report the pill that was found and was told they would “make note of it”. I also said I didn’t want any housekeeping entering the room while we were there, as it was obvious they hadn’t cleaned it prior to our arrival. Why come in and clean while we’re there?! Made my way to the bedroom later on that night and pulled the bedding back for the first time. First thing I notice is a gigantic wad of hair on the side of the bed!! There were hairs throughout the bed that belonged to someone not in our party, crumbs, and even make up/mascara stains on a pillow. Another pillow case had a strong odor of a stinky man.. so smelly that I immediately threw it in a closet and found ONE pillow that appeared to be somewhat okay to sleep with. There was so much dust on the headboard of the bed that I could have filled a rag with the dust on it. Same with the bedside lamps. The amount of dust on top of the lightbulbs could potentially be a fire hazard.. that’s how dusty they were. Photos attached! The kitchen and even living room area had food crumbs left behind from previous parties.. we hadn’t ate in the room at the time these were discovered. The dining room table was damaged and falling apart and only got worse as we sat at the table to eat. All of these things I dealt with and kept my mouth shut about and didn’t complain. A few days go by and we are all settled in and I stumble upon a COCKROACH while retrieving a toy that my toddler threw beside the couch. I immediately called and we had to pack up all of our belongings and move to a whole different room on a whole different floor. Half a day wasted just getting settled in again.. PLUS worrying about whether or not any roaches had crawled in our luggage that was all over the floor... because there’s no room to put luggage anywhere but on the floor!!! I waited to see if anything was going to be done about this when I checked out.. And sure enough, nothing. No mention of the cockroach, no mention of the pill that my 2 year old could have got ahold of!! No mention of the room cleanliness (or lack thereof) Even with the great deal I received, I feel a little ripped off after our 2020 experience. All of my luggage and clothing had to be treated for cockroaches when I returned home... especially after reading all the other Yelp reviews about the cockroach issues here. Who wants to do that after being on vacation?!!! I promoted Dayton House Resort all over my social media to thousands of friends and now I am very disappointed and regret recommending Dayton House to so many people. I understand not everything can be perfect and things happen, but it’s how you handle things that truly matters. I was expecting Dayton House to be our forever home in Myrtle Beach for many years to come.. as we are a young family and plan to make this our annual beach destination. I think I will be hunting a new spot for our future stays.
