"Adventures of Wax Jesus"

I visited this attraction not as a religious person, but as a lover of strange roadside attractions and museums, and Christ in the Smokies did not disappoint. Parking is free for those entering the museum and, as an added bonus, you are able to walk to the Gatlinburg strip afterwards without having to worry about paying to park. Once inside, you are given a short two minute video introduction. From then on, you are presented with a series of scenes with wax religious figures depicting the life of Jesus and his varying levels of chest hair. All scenes are complete with lighting and a voice over narration that lasts a couple minutes before shuffling to the next scene. The final scene is Jesus floating up and away from his wax prison. For fans of wax museums, you cannot go wrong here. I kind of wish all wax museums followed this show scene model. Once done with the wax, you are dumped into a garden. The garden was a bit smaller than I thought it would be and features a stone Christ face that follows you around wherever you walk. You can also buy one to take home to shame you as you look up whatever you look up online. After the garden is a small museum that is not the best display but contains some funny and overly dramatic bits. Other questionable notes: A random Robert E Lee wax figure and a sign that suggests Obama's election could be an indication of the apocalypse. Huzzah and cheers for bizarre religious wax diorama attractions! Check it out.

This is a must see in Gatlinburg. The gardens and the museum is beautiful and the scenes are most inspiring. Plan to spend a couple of hours here. Parking is free which is great because you can stay parked and walk to other attractions. The gift shop has reasonably priced items. We bought souvenirs there.

Since this was a spur of the moment trip, I did not read any reviews about this place. First, if you know the story of Jesus I wouldn't advise visiting it. We were by ourselves and I love how you can't move to another room until the story of each scene is finish. However, I was bored as I knew the story of Jesus from birth until crucifixion.
