"I wonder why were were asked if we were guests of the hotel so many times..."

I was waiting for our room to be ready because my girlfriend and I were attending a wedding in the area. The rehearsal dinner was at the hotel and the majority of people were also staying there so I wanted to be close because I was involved in the wedding. While we waited for our room to be ready we had three separate hotel employees ask us over an hour and a half if we were guests of the hotel. One employee required my name and one asked for our room number as proof. My girlfriend happened to be the only black person in the lobby. While we were asked 3 times if we were guests, not one other person in the lobby was asked a single question. After the first person asked if I was a guest and then asked for my name to confirm, she came back and said there were two people with that name so she wanted to check in with me. This was insulting because she didn't first approach me to sort out two bookings with the same name... She approach to ask if we were guests. After three people had asked us if we were guests while simply waiting for our room I assumed it would be over when we got to our room. I was wrong. We had a hotel employee come to our room in the hour and a half we had to get ready for our friends rehearsal dinner to ask me to confirm my email. He informed me that he wanted to make sure the room we were given was correct. The room I booked could have been upgraded to a 2 bedroom suit for around $20... I am not sure what room the other person had booked that had my same name, but from the feel of it I can assume they were ready to move me to a room that was not as nice. Fortunately I was in the correct room... Because I paid for that room. In short, this hotels staff is not all bad. Some people were lovely. The overnight front desk person was great and gave us vouchers for a free breakfast once she heard how we were treated. Which is nice, but realistically doesn't mean anything. However multiple staff members seem racist. They may not fully mean it, but it is 100% there as a feeling. I can ignore being rude to me as a person. Once you are overtly questioning someone I care about with the implication that they don't belong in your establishment... I get upset. I also gave two stars... One for each employee that actually acted politely. I would encourage this place to be better with who they hire. Racism doesn't look good on anyone.

Nice place to stay! Excellent location!!! We stayed in an Elm room. Very spacious for two people. Large bed room with king size bed and nice size living room with kitchenette. Great view of ocean. The courtyard with the seating was an added bonus. Right next to El Norte restaurant and Daily News restaurant. Right across across from ocean and running/ walking path was easily accessible. Very close to Carlsbad Village. You can walk everywhere from this location. Would definitely stay here again. Four stars only because it was under construction (outside).

"Room smelled like mold, entire property is dank and musty."

Decided to stay here for our anniversary and was a first-floor room with courtyard view. The room, which is below ground level, smelled badly like mold, and we called the front desk and they said they had another room with no view, and so we tried to make the best of it and had maintenance come and spray an air freshener that lasted only a few minutes and the room smelled like mold again. We called the next day and the front desk said they had no rooms available that night and shamed us for declining to move to a room with poorer view. We were finally given a new room on the third floor the last night of our stay but by then our trip was over. We asked for a late checkout on the final morning and they said they would charge us $25 dollars per extra half hour, despite all we had endured. , The rooms are decently remodeled but our original room should never have been rented and needs to be remedied for mold smell. Perhaps because the place is old and built on top of a concrete parking garage, but the entire grounds seems dank and musty, as if water never gets to properly drain from plant beds, the old wet lawn in the courtyard, and mold everywhere. We also noticed what other reviews have commented on about the thinness of walls and ability to hear everyone around you and the loud echoing of wheels of the maid carts on the concrete walkway on the ground floor. We did not sleep well on any of the nights. Overall, a very disappointing stay.

Loved the area and the room was excellent. Delay in Checking in was not as it should have been. The rest of the time was good. Parking and bringing in bags is a little confusing but worked out except when leaving and the elevator never arrived so I had to drive around and load the bags.

"Free Cancellation Buyer Beware!!!!"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed October 01, 2019 NEW
I was traveling to Oceanside to see my son at Camp Pendleton for visit, but had to cancel because he wasn’t granted Liberty. As soon as I found out which was four days prior I called to cancel. I figured no problem because when I booked online it advertised “free cancellation” which is just a ploy to get you to book! I was told when I called that I would have to have cancelled 8 days in advance to receive a refund. I mentioned that the website said free cancellation, but was told that the cancellation policy was in the fine print and it wasn’t there fault that I didn’t read it! I was charged for the full stay and they refused to give me my refund!!! What a SCAM!!!!
